Minutes from the 1249th Meeting of the Cambridge Entomological Club
The 1249th meeting of the Cambridge Entomological Club was called to order by President Amine Kousba at 7:35pm on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Approx.13 members and guests attended w/ 18 additional members and guests on Zoom.
New business:
Avalon Owens requests input about urban and rural firefly locations in areas around Eastern Massachusetts and south to Providence, RI. If you have information about possible locales, contact her at aownens@fas.harvard.edu
- Treasurer Jay Shetterly proposed raising membership dues for student, regular, and lifetime memberships.
- Sarah Dendy reminded members about elections for club officers for 2026-2027.
- Amine mentioned some outreach and possible fundraising ideas

Old business:
Fin Malony and Yuan Rotella were approved for membership
Our speaker was Yuko Oda, artist and Associate Professor at UMass/Lowell, who discussed her work in a talk entitled “Decaying into Bloom: Imagining a Post-human Nature”
Yuko shared her multidisciplinary practice beginning with her early inspirations, including the Japanese animator Miyazaki and Teamlab. In her recent work, which includes sculptures as well as works on paper, Yuko speculates about plants and animals mutating or hybridizing. She ended the meeting by leading the Ent Club’s first-ever art activity.
