Meeting 1163 Minutes

Minutes from the 1163rd Meeting of the Cambridge Entomological Club

President Jack Boyle called the 1163rd meeting of the Cambridge Entomological Club to order at 7:35 pm on Tuesday, January 13th in MCZ 101, 26 Oxford St. Approximately 25 members and guests were in attendance.

New business:

David Goldberg, Dennis Zhang, and Nathaniel Edelman were nominated for membership.

Our speaker was Dr. Noah Wilson-Rich, behavioral ecologist, beekeeper, author of the new book The Bee: A Natural History and the founder of The Best Bees Company. Best Bees delivers, installs, and manages beehives for homeowners and businesses. He’s currently working in a number of cities establishing beehives in urban environments, including skyscrapers.

Noah gave us an overview of his bee-related activities. He has been called in to address such problems as bees swarming a commercial airliner and a yellow car in the South End. With the revenue generated by Best Bees, he’s able to fund his scientific research.

He also offered some interesting speculations on the future of bees, for instance, utilizing their exquisite chemical sensitivity for purposes such as detecting explosives or certain diseases.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 for discussion and refreshments.

Respectfully submitted,

Andrea Golden, CEC Secretary
